Google Search Console's Generative AI performance reports and Generative AI inclusion control are now available worldwide, with first-party impressions for AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover AI by page, country, date, and device, and still no clicks or queries. Paris Childress, on episode 14 of The GEO Show, calls this the biggest GEO measurement upgrade Google has shipped and notes that SignalForge already reports AI search impressions as citation appearances at the page level.

Key takeaways

  • Search Console's Generative AI performance reports and Generative AI inclusion control are now worldwide, with AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover AI impressions by page, country, date, and device, and still no clicks or queries.
  • Paris called the rollout the biggest GEO measurement upgrade Google has shipped; third-party trackers now have a first-party benchmark, and SignalForge already reports AI search impressions as citation appearances at the page level.
  • The EU designated ChatGPT as a VLOSE under the Digital Services Act after 45 million EU users; OpenAI has four months of extra systemic risk obligations.
  • ChatGPT Ads hit $1 billion annualized run rate in under 200 days. Keep paid ChatGPT performance separate from organic GEO.
  • Nective found ChatGPT 5.6 fan-outs rising from 2.17 to 7.6 per prompt; Peak AI found listicle share falling from 15.77% to 7.8% while total cited sources roughly doubled. Do not say ChatGPT killed listicles.

Google Search Console's Generative AI performance reports and Generative AI inclusion control are now available worldwide. The reports expose first-party impressions for AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover AI by page, country, date, and device. They still do not expose clicks or queries.

Paris Childress, hosting a solo episode 14 of The GEO Show on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, called that rollout the biggest GEO measurement upgrade Google has shipped.

This is the biggest GEO measurement upgrade that Google has shipped to date.

What did Google actually put in Search Console?

A first-party AI impression is Search Console counting a page appearing in Google's generative surfaces. That is not a visit. It is not a query.

Why keep paid ChatGPT off the organic GEO scorecard?

OpenAI said ChatGPT Ads reached $1 billion ARR in under 200 days. Keep paid ChatGPT completely separate from organic GEO.

Do engine-specific sources still beat a blended AI score?

BrightEdge found NIST was ChatGPT's most cited domain in cybersecurity while YouTube ranked first in Google AI answers in roughly two-thirds of tracked prompts. Nective found ChatGPT 5.6 fan-outs rising from 2.17 to 7.6 per prompt.

Are Reddit, LinkedIn, mentions, and citations the same job?

Octopost: Reddit produced 55.8% of social citations. When AI cited a named individual, 74% came from LinkedIn. MarketScale: mention and citation are different KPIs.

Hi, everybody, and welcome to episode fourteen of The GEO Show. I'm your host, Paris Childress, and this show is brought to you by GEOforge: full self-driving for AI visibility. Now let's get into today's top stories on Tuesday, September first, starting with Google Search Console. Google's first-party AI search reporting tool is now global.

Google says that Search Console's Generative AI performance reports and its Generative AI inclusion control are now available worldwide. These reports expose AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover AI impressions by page, country, date, and device, but still no information about clicks or queries.

This is the biggest GEO measurement upgrade that Google has shipped to date. Now all of the third-party trackers have a true first-party benchmark to draw from, and we have included this in our own product within the SignalForge module. We are reporting on AI search impressions, which effectively means citation appearances at the page level.

And we'd love to see some query fan-out data if Google will give that to us as well. Next up, the EU has officially classified ChatGPT as a search engine. The European Commission designated ChatGPT as a very large online search engine, a VLOSE, under the Digital Services Act after it crossed forty-five million EU users.

OpenAI now has four months to meet additional systemic risk obligations. It's no longer a chatbot in the eyes of the EU, but it is a full-fledged search engine. That probably means greater scrutiny around recommendation systems, transparency, and information integrity.

Next up, ChatGPT Ads has already reached a one billion dollar annualized run rate. OpenAI announced yesterday that ChatGPT Ads has reached one billion in annualized revenue run rate in under two hundred days with tens of thousands of advertisers. Self-service ads manager access is now expanding across Europe, India, the Middle East, and North Africa. This morning, I got an email from OpenAI announcing the launch of ChatGPT Ads here in Europe.

So now AI discovery has two distinct markets. GEO, which is organic, earned recommendations and organic AI visibility. And paid conversational inventory. This is starting to look like SEO and PPC. Keep paid ChatGPT performance completely separate from organic GEO metrics, compare them on cost per opportunity and pipeline quality, and against Google Search.

Next story. Cybersecurity provides a striking example of why engine-specific GEO matters. BrightEdge's US B2B tech sample found that NIST was ChatGPT's most cited domain and CISA ranked fourth, while YouTube ranked first in Google AI answers, appearing in roughly two-thirds of tracked prompts.

ChatGPT is leaning towards institutional evidence (NIST, CISA) in cybersecurity, while Google AI answers and AI Mode still lean heavily towards YouTube, as in other categories. Cyber GEO needs ChatGPT institutional corroboration and authoritative video for Google AI properties.

ChatGPT 5.6 appears to be searching much more aggressively. Nective reran about four thousand prompts and found that ChatGPT fan-out queries rose from two point one seven to seven point six per prompt, with Sitecone appearing in sixty-four percent of searches. Separate Peak AI analysis found listicle citation share falling from fifteen point seven seven percent to seven point eight percent, but total cited sources per response roughly doubled.

Query fan-outs rose about three to four X in ChatGPT 5.6. Listicle share fell by about half inside a much larger retrieval pool. Do not rush to the headline that ChatGPT has killed listicles. Long live the listicles for now.

LinkedIn and Reddit appear to play fundamentally different B2B GEO roles. Octopost audited sixty-three B2B companies and twenty-seven thousand one hundred and eighty-one citations. Reddit produced fifty-five point eight percent of social citations, but when AI answers cited a named individual, seventy-four percent of those people were sourced from LinkedIn, and company pages represented only six point seven percent of social citations.

Reddit supplies community consensus. LinkedIn supplies attributable expertise. Use technical experts and executives on LinkedIn for quotable authority. Treat Reddit as a practitioner reputation environment rather than a link placement channel.

New B2B data reinforces that mentioned and cited are different KPIs. MarketScale analyzed three hundred and twenty-three thousand six hundred and sixty-seven AI responses. ChatGPT mentioned brands in twenty-eight point four percent and cited those same brands in twenty-one point five percent. Gemini showed the widest gap at twenty-three point seven percent mentions versus eleven point six percent citations. Perplexity showed almost no gap.

Engines can know and recommend a company without using that company's site as evidence. Mention rate is far more valuable. Report mention share, citation share, recommendation share, and citation ownership separately.

AI retrieval startup Qlipto has raised fifteen million dollars at a two hundred and fifty million valuation. TechCrunch. Qlipto indexes video, audio, images, meetings, and documents for natural language and AI agent search. It recently added MCP support so ChatGPT, Claude, and other agents can retrieve authorized local content. Feed SME interviews, webinars, podcasts, product videos as a structured knowledge corpus, not just campaign assets.

Thank you all for listening, and we'll see you on the next one.
